Origin Energy’s total greenhouse gas emission in 2005 to 2006 was 2 million tonnes of CO2 equivalent; will not report generating and transmission for 3 years

Peter Haenke, Origin Energy’s carbon project manager said Origin Energy’s total greenhouse gas emissions in 2005 to 2006 was 2 million tonnes of CO2 equivalent. The company has not to date reported its energy usage, reported The Australian Financial Review (19/9/2007, p.6).

New policy makes reporting mandatory: Because of its gas and oil exploration, and gas processing, Origin Energy was also covered by the Act, even though its generating and transmission businesseses were exempt for three years.

Reporting requirements: Under the Act, companies must provide a detailed analysis of sites with high power usage but they can leave out smaller sites if together they amount to less than 20 per cent of total usage. “We’ll be reporting on five or six sites, not on our retailing operations,” he said.
