Dr David Crean, Chair, Hydro Tasmania, and Vince Hawkesworth chief executive officer, Hydro Tasmania explained n March “we did 205 gigawatt hours of inputs at an average price of $26 over the period since last April, and 422 gigawatt hours at an average price of $102 per megawatt on export.

Plus contracts: Hawkesworth said “In operating this business, we do not purely rely on those issues – the pure spot price, what we are paying and what we are selling at. Inevitably we contract as well. We have already contracted out approximately 13 000 gigawatt hours into the future, so we have contracts that overlay all of that because we are trying to smooth the revenues”. Hawkesworth, said exports were $43 million in the year.. and, imports about $27 million. Crean, said, On top of that, there are RECs – renewable energy certificates.. andthe saving in gas, $30 million extra spent on gas if there were no Basslink.
