NSW State Government blames Federal Government for the collapse of the NSW NGAC to $6

Posted by gmarkets on 26 September, 2007

The NSW state Minister for Climate Change, the Environment and Water, Phil Koperberg, said in an email to The Sydney Morning Herald, (12/9/2007, p.4) yesterday that the NGAC price fall was a direct result of an ill-conceived announcement by the Federal Government in July that the NSW scheme would be scrapped if a national emissions trading scheme was introduced.

Federal Government dithering: “I’m calling on the Federal Government to stop dithering on this important issue and immediately release the details of its plan to transition to a new national emissions trading market,” Koperberg said. The NSW price for a tonne of carbon dioxide plummeted from $12 a tonne in the middle of the year to a little more than $6 .
