Posted by gmarkets on 26 September, 2007

ASX Ltd had announced plans for a futures market for carbon emission permits. The participants are likely to include retail and investment banks, big corporations, utilities, mining and transport companies, and primary producers, reported The Sydney Morning Herald (5/6/2007, p.4). Business opportunity to prepare for ETS: The introduction of a futures market will give businesses the opportunity to position themselves in an emissions trading scheme. ASX chief executive Robert Elstone said: “Australia’s highly developed financial markets are well-placed to provide the necessary infrastructure to facilitate both exchange-traded and over-the-counter markets support for an emissions trading scheme. “Once sufficient detail of the emissions trading scheme is known, ASX will be in a position to facilitate emissions trading at the earliest opportunity.”
