Cash incentives on offer to Victorian commercial building owners to upgrade properties and have them assessed for energy and water use ratings

Cash incentives were to be offered to Victorian commercial building owners to upgrade their properties and have them assessed for energy and water use ratings, reported The Age (1/9/2007, p.5). Boost offices covered by rating system: Under the ResourceSmart Commercial Buildings fund, the State Government, through Sustainability Victoria, wanted to increase the number of office buildings covered by the Australian Building Greenhouse Rating (ABGR) system.

Australian Building Greenhouse Rating: ABGR was a voluntary scheme to help commercial building owners and tenants assess and publish the greenhouse performance of build-ings. The system rates buildings from one to five stars, with five stars representing exceptional energy efficiency performance. Sustainability Victoria will subsidise the cost of seeking an ABGR ($990) for commercial office buildings. It will then help with advice on affordable ways to revamp buildings to improve energy and water efficiency. Owners will be eligible for additional rebates of up to $3000 for each star improvement.
