Brisbane City Council to spend $3.2m changing 25pc electricity supply to green power

Posted by gmarkets on 3 September, 2007

Brisbane City Council was set to spend $3.2 million to shift a quarter of its electricity supply to green power, reported The Courier Mail (29/8/2007, p.16). Up from 5pc: Under a deal with Origin Energy, a quarter of council’s electricity would be sourced from renewable energy like wind, solar and hydro power. Lord Mayor Campbell Newman said City Hall would further reduce its energy consumption once the State Government took control of the city’s water assets. Only 5 per cent of council’s energy has been sourced from green power and tenders would soon be called for a new contract from 2009.
